Common Signs of Plumbing Problems

  • What Causes Common Plumbing Problems?
There are many factors that could potentially contribute to plumbing issues, but some of the most frequent causes are lack of maintenance, manufacturer defects, and installation errors.

No matter where it is in your house or apartment, your plumbing needs to be maintained with proper chemicals and inspections to ensure longevity.

Manufacturer defects are out of our control as consumers, but being able to identify what the material is supposed to look like and function makes it easier to identify if there is an issue that will potentially lead to damage.

While it may be easier and potentially cheaper upfront to do the work yourself, that can lead to improper installation and ultimately lead to some water damage. Installation errors can be costly with having to remedy the plumbing itself, as well as any fixes to the damage that is caused by water loss
  • Where To Look For Signs of Plumbing Issues
Unless you are involved through the whole home-building process, you won't be able to check every aspect of the plumbing. There are some places where you are able to easily check on the status of your plumbing. These places include:
    • Under sinks and washtubs
    • Inside access panels
    • Basements and crawl spaces
    • Attachments to fixtures or the fixtures themselves
  • Signs of Plumbing Problems
Any discoloration, corrosion, or breakage should be taken seriously because while it may not be noticeable right away, there may be some water damage present. All pipes, connections, and fixtures should be regularly inspected for these signs, and if you notice any of these signs, call a licensed plumber to do an inspection.
